The 1976 release of Heavyweight Champ is a discrete logic arcade fighting game released by Sega Enterprises, Ltd. It was later remade as the more commonly known Heavyweight Champ from 1987.

Gameplay

Players operate the game by grabbing one of two controllers on the cabinet, both of which are in the shape of a boxing glove. To play the game, players must move the controller up and down to change the arm height, then push it in and release it to punch. Player characters who are punched will go down with a comical sound. The number of downs is displayed on the screen; the closer a player hits their opponent, the higher the score value is, and a score for a right punch is twice as high as the left punch. The game ends in 45-80 seconds, and the player with the highest score is declared the winner.
