At the time of release, ''Argos no Jūjiken'' was the only home port of ''Rygar'' available to Japanese consumers, with the Famicom version, titled ''Argos no Senshi: Hachamecha Daishingeki'' (アルゴスの戦士 はちゃめちゃ大進撃) sharing similar gameplay traits and settings, but overhauling levels and key elements of the game's design to produce a very different product. This would continue to be case until 1994 when the X68000 version by Micomsoft was released.
