Fixed the issue with the page. So here's the thing - that's how the manual is. The front, back and two inside pages are the correct side up, while the rest of the manual is upside down. You can see that page 22 and 23, if right side up, would be going backwards, number wise. It's weird, so I went with the front being right side up. | Fixed the issue with the page. ay up
manual scanning isn't really my bag but I think we're trying to separate pages. There's a tool: http://forums.sonicretro.org/index.php?showtopic=30944 though you might need to ask for it since the link is dead. There'll be answers to the variable PDF page size thing too.
Also the file naming scheme for scans is "<name> <console> <region> <type>.whatever", e.g. "Bubsy MD US Manual.pdf" or words to that effect. Just because there's a lot of stuff and it might otherwise cause confusion down the line. But lovely job otherwise -Black Squirrel (talk) 10:31, 12 May 2014 (CDT)
If its not against the rules, i can cut this scans and reupload them then i return home. I will do this for my manuals collection anyway. -Depressor (talk) 06:27, 8 September 2014 (CDT)

There's a book that needs tracking down, which might save you the trouble of cropping out bits of cover art:
"Sega TV Game Genga Gallery" or "Sega Video Game Illustrations" or whatever it wants to be called today (it hasn't got a page on this wiki because I genuinely don't know what it's meant to be called). It's the only source I know of that has clean, high resolution versions of early 90s Sega cover art (including the MD ESWAT), but nobody willing to scan it owns a copy. Might be of interest?
The other really important thing about this book is that it actually tells us who the artists were, which in turn might lead us to better versions hosted online. It sometimes happens! -Black Squirrel (talk) 07:08, 18 October 2014 (CDT)
png scans
Scans like these don't need transparency - trying to crop out all the white space by hand is time consuming and it doesn't really achieve much - you'd be better off leaving the white background from the scanner and uploading as a JPEG (although obviously it needs to be cropped to some degree so we don't have massive white borders). Because it's a PNG the file size is bumped up to 61MB, but it's a bit pointless to use lossless compression in this situation as the scanner is never going to lead to a super duper perfect image. -Black Squirrel (talk) 05:30, 7 January 2015 (CST)
pamphlet PDF
I think it's just generating that error because the dimensions are big. ~12,000 rows of pixels seems to be using more memory than what the thumbnail generator is equipped to deal with
I wouldn't worry though - it's a problem with MediaWiki, not the file itself -Black Squirrel (talk) 12:39, 5 October 2015 (CDT)
Rent A Hero No 1 DC Manual
Hi. This manual are without page 24 and all images are upside-down... *Depressor (talk) 15:06, 16 February 2016 (CST)

Hey man,
Fixed the issue with the page. So here's the thing - that's how the manual is. The front, back and two inside pages are the correct side up, while the rest of the manual is upside down. You can see that page 22 and 23, if right side up, would be going backwards, number wise. It's weird, so I went with the front being right side up.
Thx for missed page and the numbering. *Depressor (talk) 14:12, 18 February 2016 (CST)
I just got your email

There's server-y stuff going on at the moment so uploading magazines in full is off the table for the time being, but when that's resolved, I'd imagine we'd want the best quality possible (within reason).
Right now the server puts a 100MB restriction on HTTP uploads - I use FTP to bypass this, but I'm aware the situation is slightly awkward for everyone else. I don't know what future plans are - other things have priority at the time of writing, but hopefully we'll be back on track at some point.
OldGameMags, Retromags and Archive.org are your best bet right now. While obviously we'd like copies, more mirrors mean a higher chance of preservation, which is the most important thing -Black Squirrel (talk) 13:05, 22 February 2016 (CST)
Magref
You'll have more luck with magazine references if you use Template:magref
e.g. rather than
{{fileref|EGM_US_013.pdf|page=31}}
use
{{magref|egm|13|31}}

I love prototype screenshots, but I'd love them even more if they're categorised:
Can you start adding
{{MDSS|<GAME NAME>|development=yes}}
to the description field (leave out the development parameter if the screenshot's from the final game). Otherwise they end up lost in Special:UncategorizedFiles.
