Gameplay
Area of Effect
Area of Effect (AoE) is a term used in many role-playing and strategy games to describe attacks or spells that affect multiple targets within a specified area. In the strategy titles of Shining Force, this is a unique trait of spells, either offensive or defensive. It always either targets only allies or only enemies, never both combined, even if units of the opposite faction are amidst the target area. Most of the ranges existent in the games are listed below, but there are instances where the range is different, for example many Shining Force III's enemies such as the Golem of Scenario I.
Range
Range is a term used in many role-playing and strategy games to describe how far attacks or spells can reach. In the strategy titles of Shining Force, this is a trait of both spells and weapons (arrows, knives, spears, etc). Both can either affect without restrictions, or have the adjacent squares of the caster blocked. Most of the ranges existent in the games are listed below, but there are instances where the range is different, for example many Shining Force III's enemies such as the Golem of Scenario I.
