Speed Racer in The Challenge of Racer X is a racing game based on the Speed Racer franchise, published by Accolade for IBM PCs. A version was at one point set for release on the Sega Mega Drive, but despite being advertised (and priced at £39.99 in the UK[9]), the game was cancelled for unknown reasons.

The Mega Drive Speed Racer, unlike its Super NES counterpart advertised around the same time, was purely a racing game similar to the PC version[16].

The Challenge of Racer X was originally due release in 1993 (later March 1994), meaning, unlike some of Accolade's older Mega Drive titles, it would have been licensed by Sega, having followed the Sega v. Accolade court case.
