The Flash is a Sega Master System action platform game developed by Probe Software and published by Sega. Based on the titular American comic series The Flash, it was first released in Europe in August 1993[5] and was later brought to Brazil and Portugal.

Story

STAR Labs

The supervillain the Trickster has taken control of Central City and made himself mayor. He has declared the Flash a criminal and turned the entire city against him. He has also stolen five priceless gems from the city treasury. The Flash must find the gems and put a stop to the Trickster. He is assisted by his friend Tina McGee at STAR Labs.

Gameplay

The game is a side-scrolling platformer played as the superhero the Flash, who moves with superspeed. The goal of each level is to locate a switch that opens the way to the exit, then find the exit. There are six episodes, each containing two levels and concluding with increasingly difficult fights against the Trickstermobile.

The Flash moves with Left and Right and crouches with Down. He can move with superspeed with Left Left or Right Right. He jumps with 2 and jumps down from platforms with Down+2. He jumps higher when not moving. When standing still, the Flash can perform a vibrating attack, a short-ranged projectile attack, with 1. The vibrating attack can be pointed in any direction using the D-Pad. It can attack enemies, and it is also the only way to open item boxes. A long bar representing the Flash's SuperSpeed Energy appears on the left edge of the screen. SuperSpeed Energy is used whenever Flash moves with superspeed or uses his vibrating attack. It can be recharged by standing in front of Star Food Vendors that appear in the levels.

When moving (including when in midair), the Flash can briefly spin into whirlwind with 1. He can attack enemies in this state. Flash also has a special whirlwind attack that he can enter by pressing Left and Right rapidly, which keeps him in the whirlwind state for several seconds or until he takes damage but can only be done a limited number of times. The Flash starts each episode with the ability to do this once but can gain additional uses through items.

The Flash has four health points, depicted as small lightning bolts in the corner of the screen. He loses a life if he loses all of his health points. Each level has a 60-second time limit, and the Flash also loses a life if time runs out. The game ends if he loses all of his lives. The player starts with no continues but can find some hidden in the levels. The game awards 10,000 bonus points at the end of the level for completing it without losing a life.
