Video Display Processor (VDP) is a name commonly associated with bespoke graphics processing units created by Sega for use in their video game consoles and arcade machines. Unlike other microchips used in Sega's consoles, VDPs were usually created by (or under guidance from) Sega themselves and are typically unique to the system they were designed for. Like all GPUs, VDPs assist in the process of rendering video game graphic data onto a television screen.
A number of VDP integrated circuits exist:
- Sega VDP, for Sega Mark III and Sega Master System
- Sega 315‑5313 VDP (Yamaha YM7101), for Sega Mega Drive
- Sega 315-5548, for Sega CD and Sega Mega-CD
- Sega 32X VDP, for Sega 32X
- VDP1, for Sega Saturn
- VDP2, for Sega Saturn
