Diapet (ダイヤペット) is a brand of Japanese die-cast metal toy vehicles currently managed by Agatsuma.

Diapet cars are usually 1:40 replicas of real vehicles; though some may be 1:30, 1:35 or 1:55. While initially aimed at children, like many other toy car replicas they have, over time, become popular with collectors.

History

The Diapet line originates from 1965 after Japanese toy manufacturer Yonezawa bought one of its rivals Taiseiya Co., Ltd.. Taiseiya had been producing die-cast cars in Japan under the "Micro Pet" brand, which was changed to "Cherryca Phenix" in 1962 - Yonezawa, which had to this point only been producing tin-plate toys, brought out Diapet as a replacement for both their and Taiseiya's efforts. Diapet rose to become a flagship brand for Yonezawa, who were already one of the largest post-war toy manufacturers in the country.

Sega bought Yonezawa in July 1994, creating Sega-Yonezawa, inheriting the Diapet brand. In March 2000, the company, now renamed Sega Toys, sold Diapet to Agatsuma. This means virtually all Diapet products over the course of six years are within the scope of the Sega Retro wiki.
