Nokia Corporation is a Finnish telecommunications and consumer electronics company.
Nokia was originally established as a pulp mill in 1865, and was at some point operating in forestry, cable, rubber, and electronics in the mid-to-late 20th century, eventually divesting their non-electronics subsidiaries to focus more on telecommunications and information technology.
The company produced numerous mobile phones, which in turn ran games which were published or licensed by Sega. At its peak in 2008, the company was the largest vendor of mobile phones, with 39% global market share.
Microsoft purchased Nokia's mobile phone business in 2014, incorporating it as Microsoft Mobile. After the sale, Nokia focused more on telecommunications backend businesses and Internet of Things (IoT) products at the time. The Nokia brand saw a return to the mobile and smartphone market in 2016 when Microsoft abandoned their failed mobile phone venture and sold the Nokia feature phone line and trademark rights to the Finnish startup HMD Global, who has since sold Nokia-branded phones under license, though they have used the HMD brand alongside the Nokia moniker since 2023 in an effort to diversify their portfolio.
