Zaxxon hardware games
From Sega Retro
Zaxxon Hardware games refer to arcade releases that rely on the technology that fueled Sega's shoot-'em-up Zaxxon. Zaxxon was revolutionary at the time of release as it was the first game to utilise isometric graphics. Keen to take advantage of this new perspective, Sega released a few other isometric games which were powered by the same engine. All of these games attempted to draw in customers as they generally offered far more detailed graphics than some of their birds-eye or side-scrolling rivals. The hardware was also used for non-isometric games, though Sega usually rolled out other hardware for this (such as the Sega G80 board).
