Croc: Legend of the Gobbos (クロック!パウパウアイランド Croc! Pau-Pau Island in Japan) is a popular 3D platform game developed by Argonaut Software for the Sega Saturn, Sony PlayStation and Microsoft Windows. A 2D version exists for the Game Boy Color.

The game stars the young crocodile, Croc, who must free captured creatures known as Gobbos and defeat the evil Baron Dante who imprisoned them. Similar to Sonic the Hedgehog, Croc collects crystals which act as a form of health. If Croc has no crystals he can be killed, however as long as he holds onto at least one, he will stay alive. There are various secret coloured crystals, which, when collected, allow Croc to venture into bonus levels. As well as this, there are other bonus levels hidden in some levels, and entire "secret island" filled with extra levels.

Saturn Rendering Bugs

Due to rendering errors, the original European Saturn release of the game would feature a headless Croc (and various other missing polygons) when played, prompting the publisher to include a yellow instruction leaflet to explain to the user how to fix the problem. In order for the game to work properly, the Sega Saturn must first be turned on without the game inserted. When the "no disc" message appears, the user must then insert the Croc CD. The game will then boot normally. However, as this needs to be done every time the game is played, it can be an annoyance.

Sequels and Re-releases

Croc was followed in 1999 by Croc 2 on the PlayStation, Game Boy Color and Windows. Ports for the Nintendo 64 and Sega Dreamcast were planned, but scrapped.
