Jogurt (also referred to as Yogurt) is a small, hamster-like creature in the Shining series. He appears as a playable character in Shining Force, and has also made appearances and cameos in other games.

Character Conception
The character was originally used by the developers for a graphics test. Yoshitaka Tamaki, who hadn't even started doing the heroes yet, had a unfinished doodle of the character and one of the programmers asked for it, as a means to enter graphic data. The name comes from that beta test phase as well, as the team came across the syllable yo by chance and since there were only food names, they settled with the name yogurt.
Background
Not much at all can be gathered about Jogurt's background, as he doesn't say very much, and the little that he does say speaks nothing about his background or origins. As he is found in many areas throughout Rune, it is impossible to pinpoint where he originally came from. One can conclude that he is of a nomadic nature, wandering around, almost aimlessly.
Personality
Jogurt is generally carefree and seems to have a cheerful disposition. Whenever he is seen, he is usually running around, seemingly frantically, or clumsily falling over in bed. He is viewed as somewhat of a comic relief character, rather than being someone to take seriously.
Joining the Force
He can be seen for the first time near Gong's cabin, and a second time in Alterone Castle. When visiting Pao for the first time, he can be seen by entering the church, and going into the corner of the building with the bed. Jogurt can be seen sleeping on a blue cot on the top-left corner of the screen. He will suddenly wake up startled, and fall back asleep. The next time you go to HQ, you will see that he's joined the Force.

Strategy
Jogurt does not posses the ability to actually gain levels, though he is able to level up somewhat, as he can hit the required points and once this happens the game will prompt the following line '…It appears that Jogurt’s level increases to 1.' and it’s true, as he’s at level 1 even though he has supposedly gained a level. His stats will remain the same no matter how many times he levels up, though using boosting items will raise his stats. Once he levels up, he’ll retain every boosting item stat, except MP.
As part of the YGRT class, Jogurt has 50% Magic Resistance to all spells. Aside from this, he does not possess any abilities that are beneficial for direct and/or indirect combat, nor can he be equipped with anything to provide him with any such ability. If he manages to defeat an enemy, he will get a Yogurt Ring, which is a novelty item. This item will transform the wearer into a Yogurt (in appearance only). If you want a party member with any practical application whatsoever, take anyone but Jogurt.
Promotion
Jogurt's promotion is a bit of an oddity. He can ALWAYS be promoted, regardless of level, or whether or not he has already been promoted. When being promoted, NOTHING will change about him. His class will remain as YGRT, his stats will remain the same, and his appearance will stay the same as well.
Other Appearances
Jogurt appeared in Shining Soul II as a doll. He also made a cameo in Time Stalkers, seen in Marion's ending. Sega has made a Yogurt Plush Doll as well.
