'PacMan Meets Alien' Advances to the Next Level

LOS ANGELES, Digital World Conference, June 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Drew Pictures, developer of the popular Iron Helix science fiction adventure game, today announced that their award-winning title will soon be available to owners of Sega CD and the new portable Sega CDX. Dubbed by the press "PacMan Meets Alien" for its classic cat and mouse gameplay in a film-noir outerspace setting, Iron Helix was designed specifically for CD-ROM and delivers strategic gameplay and stunning graphics. One of the most successfully CD-ROM games on both the Macintosh and Windows platforms, Iron Helix will now be optimized for Sega CD and Sega CDX and published by Spectrum HoloByte.

The interface and gameplay were adapted for the Sega handheld game controller and the exciting animated sequences in Iron Helix now occupy a much larger area of the television screen. "Iron Helix for Sega is a significant milestone for Drew Pictures," said Drew Huffman, president of Drew Pictures. "We are geared for development on three major platforms -- Sega, Windows and Macintosh -- and we are committed to delivering all future products on these platforms."

Iron Helix is not a mindless "shoot 'em up" arcade game. The story line revolves around a six-story intergalactic starship and a malfunctioning computer that threatens to destroy a heavily populated earthlike planet. Using a robot probe, the player's mission is to obtain DNA samples from a biological research ship's missing crew which can disarm the ship's deadly security robot, stop the renegade spaceship and prevent intergalactic war.

Outstanding features of Iron Helix include a virtual-reality environment with more than 500 MegaBytes of seamless full-motion 3D navigation, three uniquely different play levels and an intuitive interface.

Here's what current Iron Helix users have to say:

-- "Wow!" said Jeff Gums of Springfield, Va. "I recently purchased Iron Helix and I'm impressed, to say the least. The fluid, real-time motion adds unprecedented realism. If your next release is anything like this, you will be setting a trend by which all others will be judged."

-- "Iron Helix has got to be one of the best damn games yet written for the personal computer," wrote Applelink user Matt Melmon.

-- "I just got your game a week ago and it's occupied every bit of spare time I have. Great game," commented John Soltys over the Internet.

The Sega CD and Sega CDX version of Iron Helix will be on retail shelves in September 1994. Iron Helix won the 1993 SPA Award for "Best Strategy Game" and 1993 The NewMedia Invision Award's Silver Medal for "Best Animation/Still Imagery" and an honorable mention for "Best Script/Story." Iron Helix has currently shipped over 300,000 copies.
