Mega Man
Title screen
Wily Wars ignores most of the regional changes seen in the original NES Mega Man games, adopting Japanese-style logos (which Capcom claim are registered trademarks now) and in the first Mega Man game's case, its entire title screen layout. On the NES this screen is silent, whereas Wily Wars recycles the title screen music from Mega Man 3.
Unlike the NES, no attempt would be made to optimise for PAL televisions, meaning Wily Wars runs at a lower resolution in PAL regions than the NES (256x224 vs. 256x239).
Robot Master selection
Wily Wars chooses to update the level select, taking design cues from Mega Man 3. The robot master sprites are replaced with portraits.
Robot Master introduction
The robot master introduction screens are also updated, however Wily Wars drops the "clear points" text, leaving the number to randomly generatate without context.
Mega Man 2
Title screen
The Mega Drive ports choose to use Arabic numbers to denote the sequels outside of Japan, rather than Roman numerals. Up until Mega Man 8, the Mega Man games would be inconsistent with their numbering, using Roman numerals in-game but Arabic on their boxes and marketing.
The menu is also removed in Wily Wars.
Robot Master selection
Mega Man: The Wily Wars chooses to colour-code the level selection screens rather than stick with the classic blue, with Mega Man 2 using red. Like its predecessor, some design cues are borrowed from Mega Man 3.
Robot Master introduction
The text is placed on the right-hand side of the robot master, similarly to the original Mega Man (the only classic game to do this).
Mega Man 3
Title screen
Mega Man: The Wily Wars has a battery back-up save system, so the "pass word" option is no longer needed.
Robot Master selection
Mega Man 3 uses green backgrounds. In the West, the "Push Start" text becomes "Press Start", making it consistent with the rest of the series. The graphical artifacts which appear over Shadow Man's portrait are also nowhere to be seen on the Mega Drive.
