Sega Touring Car Championship Special (セガツーリングカーチャンピオンシップスペシャル) was a medium-scale attraction version of the Sega Model 2 arcade game Sega Touring Car Championship. It first appeared at Kyoto Joypolis on opening day[1], before also going on to appear at a number of other Joypolis venues.
Sega Touring Car Championship Special followed in the footsteps of the older Sega Rally Special Stage, being a specialised version of Touring Car, with players riding inside full-sized vehicles acting as motion simulators on a 6 axis motion base. Unlike Sega Rally Special Stage, however, it was built with a choice of three cars; the Toyota Supra, AMG-Mercedes C-Class and Alfa Romeo 155; meaning the Opel Calibra was removed entirely from the game, and making it possible to race against two other opponents.
Like the vast majority of Sega's medium and large-scale attractions from the 90s, no installations of Sega Touring Car Championship Special are currently known to exist - Okayama Joypolis' units were removed within a year of the site opening, the original version went with Kyoto Joypolis upon its 2002 closure, and it was succeeded at Tokyo Joypolis by Initial D Arcade Stage 4 Limited in 2007, fulfilling much the the same purpose but with a newer game.
