Classic Mac OS, formerly known as Mac OS and simply Macintosh, is a personal computer operating system developed by American technology company Apple Computer. The primary rival to the IBM PC architecture, it was released in January 1984. Although Classic Mac OS PCs generally received far less games than their IBM PC counterparts, a number of first and third-party Sega games have been published to Apple's original operating system.

In March 2001, the operating system was succeeded by its modern replacement, Mac OS X.
