Sales charts

Many countries had official or semi-official sales charts for video games along much the same lines as music charts. These would often include format specific charts, such as for the various Sega formats. These were compiled by professional retail sales tracking companies such as Chart-Track in the UK, Media Control in Germany, GfK in France, NPD Group in the US, and Media Create in Japan. In Japan it was also common for magazine publishers to produce their own national charts, resulting in charts from Famitsu, Dengeki, and Softbank.
