Takenori Ogata (小形 武徳) is a former Japanese salesman. His first sales work in the 1950s was for model slot car manufacturers, then pivoting to become a stockbroker, but had to quit in the wake of the assassination of John F. Kennedy and stock market crash.[2] Moving back to sales, he joined Rosen Enterprises in 1964, inspired by seeing Rosen's machines at a US military camp club.[2]
After Rosen Enterprises merged with Service Games the following year to create Sega, Ogata would continue to manage amusement machine sales, playing a crucial role in selling Olympia Star and Harness Race.[2] He remained at Sega of Japan in the subsequent decades,[3][4] latterly also becoming senior director of the company's amusement machine sales divisions in Europe.[1]
By then a vice president, Ogata retired from Sega in June 1998.[5]
