Alpha Denshi Kabushikigaisha (アルファ電子株式会社, meaning "Alpha Electronics Corporation") was a Japanese video game developer, founded in 1980.[1] It shortened its name to ADK Corporation in 1992.[2] The company is best known for its close association with SNK.
Several of the company's early arcade games were distributed by Sega, including Jump Bug, Champion Baseball, Bull Fighter, and Equites. Starting in 1987, Alpha Denshi began developing its arcade games solely for SNK hardware, and SNK would publish and distribute all of their games from that point on. In 1990, Alpha Denshi contributed to the hardware design of the Neo Geo arcade platform.[3] The company would develop its games exclusively for SNK platforms with only two exceptions, World Heroes Perfect for the Sega Saturn and Twinkle Star Sprites for the Sega Saturn and Sega Dreamcast.
Following the bankruptcy of SNK's original incarnation in 2001, the company struggled to reestablish a market position. Sometime after, the company declared bankruptcy, and its intellectual property was bought by SNK's current incarnation.
