Phantasy Star Online
From Sega Retro
Merge V1 and V2
I had been looking heavily into the way the various Phantasy Star Online releases have been handled and even going in depth into how much each version has differed. I understand and do agree that it might be best for the likes of Phantasy Star Online and Phantasy Star Online Episode I & II to be their own separate games and have their own Omni with their own content listed due to just how much changed between versions complete with new stories being added and so on (just look at the ever-increasing of differences between Dreamcast and Gamecube version in EP I & II's comparison). This sentiment extends also to the likes of Phantasy Star Universe and Ambitions of the Illuminus and Portable 2 and Infinity. However, I do think it is unnecessary to list Phantasy Star Online Ver. 2 as its own separate game as it may lead to some confusion and gets in the way of some organization. To cover a few reasons:
- The difference between PSO and PSO Ver. 2 is comparable to the initial Japanese release of Sonic Adventure (with its bugs, unfinished features, etc) and its Western release.
- The PC version is known as simply "Phantasy Star Online".
- Episode I & II does NOT distinguish between the regular Ep I & II and Ep I & II Plus.
As a result, moving forward I think this would be in the best interest:
- Display both the PSO and PSO Ver. 2 screens using two bobscreens (if thats possible on this wiki).
- List the Ver. 2 (and PC) release dates on the PC version with a "Ver. 2" to distinguish it.
- Most of the differences covered in the Ver. 2 page can be moved to the PSO comparison page.
- Ver. 2's history can be covered and summarized easily on the main PSO page.
- As has already been done with some instances, the Development history can cover Ver. 1 and Ver. 2's release.
