Sega Mega Drive/Hardware revisions

Is this page supposed to be a comprehensive guide for all possible PCB revisions and their components or just display examples? Because the components used on each revision can vary, and the information currently available on this page usually just represents the image next to it.

This page is older than Sega Retro so there's a very good chance a lot of it is naive and wrong. This isn't my particular fortay so I've left it up to other people to sort out.

I think it's meant to showcase board revisions first and foremost. If there were changes in the chips used but the board remained the same, I don't think that would constitute a separate image and a line in the table (but it might want to be mentioned somewhere). It'll probably need a cleanup and a reorganise by someone who knows what they're talking about.

Some details can be ignored, such as specific chip manufacturing dates (i.e. we don't care if a chip was pressed in the 40th week of 1992). There's going to be very few cases where every single component is exactly the same.

It should be one per board revision, ideally per region. Sega used several sources for components, including RAM and CPUs, so showing e.g. two MD1 VA6 boards that are identical except one uses a Motorola 68000 and one uses a Hitachi 68000 isn't very useful. ---GerbilSoft (talk) 09:08, 22 April 2015 (CDT)
