Make My Video

From Sega Retro

The Make My Video series is a set of four games created by Digital Pictures for the Sega Mega-CD during 1992 and 1993.

All four games are broadly the same - the objective is to edit videos in real time to appease various characters (these restrictions being lifted if playing using the "U-Direct" mode). Three video feeds run concurrently at the bottom of the screen, and the player uses A, B and C to determine which feed to use. The D-Pad can then be used to add special effects. The song cannot be changed, and the limitations of the system mean the resulting video is always very small.

Despite the names of each release and the choices made when marketing the product, the Make My Video games are only tangentially related to the music acts they feature. For example, Mark Wahlberg does not appear in Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch outside the short clips of the associated music videos. Instead, the games involve a set of often comical fictional characters (portrayed with live action full motion video) which the player has to impress.

Each game also only features three songs, usually more compressed than their audio CD counterparts.
