The Combat Cars prototype, which identifies itself as Fun Car Rally is currently the only dumped prototype version of the game. It is thought to be an early build of the game; the ROM header suggests a date of December 1992, though its true origins are unknown.
At this point in development there was no "combat" in Combat Cars, instead just being a one or two player top-down racer. The player cannot select a car or driver, and sixteen tracks are available from the start. If the player wins or loses, the game returns to the title screen.
