Compton's NewMedia, Inc., formerly known as Britannica Software, Inc., and sometimes credited as Compton's Learning Company, was an American computer software developer and publisher, and division of Scottish encyclopedia production company Encyclopædia Britannica, Inc.[1]

Founded as Britannica Software in 1985, the company was renamed Compton's NewMedia in 1992, and primarily specialized in multimedia CD-ROM educational programs for Windows PCs. Later that year, the developer relocated from their San Francisco, California headquarters to new offices in Solano Beach, California.[1]
