Localisation comparisons
Sega logo
The Western versions include a ™ symbol next to the Sega logo.
Title screen
Until the PlayStation release of Contra: Legacy of War, PAL regions would never see a Contra game. Instead, Konami's efforts would be released in the region as Probotector, and Contra: Hard Corps is no exception.
Player select
Probotector games replace the human characters (or human-like characters) with robots. In this Mega Drive game, Ray and Sheena become CX-1 and CX-2, respectively.
Fang and Browny become CX-3 and CX-4. Being a robot already, Browny remains unchanged.
Stage 1 introduction
No human is safe in Probotector - even the instructor was changed, though most of his dialogue is not.
Stage 1 start
The Japanese version breaks from the Contra formula by giving players a (short) life bar, while the Western versions have one-hit kills. In Probotector, CX-1 and CX-2 are the same sprite with different palettes, meaning there are only three unique characters in the game rather than four.
