Reception

Divine Sealing was generally well-received by consumers of adult software, both due to the game's high production values and presentation, and its role as being one of the first unlicensed adult games released for a home game system. Most notably, the game was one of the first high-profile adult releases in its respective market, and one of the very first titles to show Japanese consumers that quality erotic games could indeed be produced for a Sega-branded home system.[1]

It's modern reputation is less favorable (especially in the West), as its adult content has seen the game lampooned and ridiculed - frequently for no other reason than it featuring hentai in a home console game. In reality, much of Divine Sealing's apparent failings and inconsistent presentation can be attributed to it being an early Mega Drive game as much as it can to it being unlicensed or adult.
