Hardcore is an unreleased Sega Mega Drive and Sega Mega-CD action game similar to Contra or Turrican, developed by Digital Illusions.

History

The Mega Drive version of Hardcore is known to have been "99% completed", but was cancelled when publisher Psygnosis cancelled all of its Mega Drive projects to shift its focus to the PlayStation. Digitial Illusions (now known as DICE) have been keen for many years to see this game released in some form, even entering discussions with Sony (who now owns Psygnosis) in 2010, which at first appeared to have gone nowhere, but in 2018 the game emerged as Ultracore, released in 2019 for several platforms including the Mega Drive.

The Mega-CD version was never completed - its development status unknown before being pulled.
