New Boggle Boggle 2 (뉴 보글 보글 2) is an unlicensed Sega Master System puzzle platform game developed by MBiTM and published by Zemina. A port of the 1986 Taito arcade game Bubble Bobble, it was released exclusively in South Korea in 1989.
"Boggle Boggle" is the South Korean onomatopoeia for the sound of bubbling water[1], similar to the English onomatopoeia "bubble bubble".
History
When foreign arcade games were first imported into South Korea, the cabinets themselves were generally left unlocalized, and entrepreneuring Korean arcade owners began taping Han'geul-language titles to the marquees. When Taito's Bubble Bobble was first imported, arcade owners typically localized the game's title to "Boggle Boggle"[1], the South Korean onomatopoeia for the sound of bubbling water (similar to the English onomatopoeia "bubble bubble".) The name stuck, and eventually Taito's puzzle game became most known in South Korea as Boggle Boggle.
