SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 13, 1996--Rocket Science Games Inc. Tuesday announced four new titles for CD-ROM and Sony PlayStation slated to be on store shelves for Christmas 1996.

The Rocket Science lineup features OBSIDIAN, a surrealistic 3D graphic adventure set in a dream world; ROCKET JOCKEY, a fast-action 3D sport/combat jousting game; THE SPACE BAR, a humorous sci-fi mystery adventure designed by Steve Meretzky; and GANYMEDE, a hyper-active combat game that combines strategy with incredible speed and driving physics.

"The key to all of our forthcoming titles is rich interactivity," said Bill Davis, vice president of product development. "The heart of our games is fun - whether it's shooting, driving, strategy, or taking a mind-altering journey to a dream world. Take all the great graphics and production values out and the game is still extremely fun to play. One reason that we have chosen high-end systems such as Win 95 and the PlayStation, is that players will get that intense interactivity that makes their gaming experience really stand out."

"In designing our games, we're leading players through fantastic and exciting environments that reward the players," added Will Harvey, vice president of engineering for Rocket Science. "It's important that the satisfaction the player receives from playing is proportional to the amount of effort he or she contributes. The deeper he gets into the game, the more the game rewards the player. These games deliver a multitude of different experiences, but all are similar in that gameplay and player satisfaction are the primary design objective."

OBSIDIAN

OBSIDIAN takes players on a mysterious first-person adventure into an organically technological dream world. To unravel the mystery of this surrealistic world, and find their fellow scientist Max, players must negotiate five reality-altering realms vividly rendered in 3D. Each realm offers many fresh new puzzles, carefully integrated into the storyline. Players will question reality and perspective before grasping the "of course!" revelations that solve these puzzles. OBSIDIAN will ship on both Windows 95 and MAC CD-ROM in the fourth quarter, 1996.

ROCKET JOCKEY

ROCKET JOCKEY thrusts players into a violent jousting combat sport. Players pilot a blazing rocket in a variety of no-holds-barred competitions where survival is the ultimate objective. High on speed and low on control, the rockets can only negotiate turns by shooting cables into arena poles to boomerang around corners at breakneck speeds.

Players quickly learn to make new uses of the innovative gameplay mechanism: They use their cables to hurl weapons or clothesline their competitors at strategic moments. Other sports within ROCKET JOCKEY involve hurling a ball into a goal and negotiating obstacle courses against other jockeys and the clock.

THE SPACE BAR

Players rely on detective skills to uncover the alien thief in THE SPACE BAR, a Windows 95 and Mac CD-ROM due to ship third quarter, 1996. As detective Alias Node, players hunt through the Thirsty Tentacle Bar to discover the identity of the ruthless killer who's purloined top-secret technology. Smooth-motion 360 degree views, hysterically funny storyline, wonderful first-person perspective and a tremendous variety of well-developed, unique alien characters and environments combine to make this mystery a never-say-die case.

The Space Bar is designed by Steve Meretzky, designer of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Planetfall, with art direction by Ron Cobb, Hollywood's leading production designer for futuristic adventure stories. He is known for his design of the aliens in the original cantina in Star Wars.

GANYMEDE

Players race across the rugged 3D moonscape in Ganymede, matching battle skills and strategy against the warlike Eridani aliens. Piloting a heavily armed, frictionless vaporsled, the player smashes through enemy battle craft and attacks mission targets with stealth and speed.

Superbly realistic driving physics accompanied by aggressive thrusting power, minimal traction and rugged terrain make exploring Ganymede, the ice-moon under the ominous watch of Jupiter, an adventure in itself. The ability to freely navigate the surface of the entire moon on more than 20 missions creates unlimited gameplay.
