Julia Angwin, Chronicle Staff Writer July 8, 1997; Updated: Jan. 29, 2012 12:31 p.m. Fed up with annoying Web pages and the World Wide Wait? Revenge is possible with a free software program called Web Vengeance by SegaSoft. The program lets frustrated Internet users take out their aggression by shooting virtual AK- 47s or hurling rotten tomatoes at slow or offending Web pages. "It's a desktop stressball," said Donalyn Mason , product manager for Web Vengeance at SegaSoft in Redwood City. With a mouse click, users can launch stones, arrows, missiles and other implements of destruction. The page looks like it's been destroyed, but it hasn't. In fact, the only way a Web site knows it's been hit is if someone from the site visits SegaSoft's "Hall of Shame" -- a catalog of Web sites that have been attacked. SegaSoft is planning to release a version of the product for corporate e-mail users this fall. Called Vengeance, it will cost about $20 and let e-mailers within a company pepper each other's messages with ammunition and rotten fruit. Web Vengeance works with Windows 95 and either Netscape or Microsoft's Web browsers. It is available at www.segasoft.com/web-vengeance/main.html.
