MILPITAS, Calif., April 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Tengen Video Games today announced the signing of Dick Vitale to a multi-year contract to develop video games designed and endorsed by the colorful basketball announcer. Under the agreement, Vitale's voice, likeness and strategy appear in a line of basketball video games to be marketed worldwide.

The first of these games, code-named "Dick Vitale's Awesome Baby Basketball," will be available in stores by Christmas of this year for play on the Sega(TM) Genesis(TM) 16-bit video game system.

"We are thrilled to have coach Vitale as a member of the Tengen design team for this line of video games," said Ted Hoff, Tengen's senior vice president of sales and marketing. "His knowledge and expertise in college basketball will be the driving influence of the most authentic and exciting line of sports video games."

Vitale's career spans over 20 years in college basketball, making him the most highly regarded commentator in the college ranks. He is renowned for his unique, colorful game play calls, such as: "Awesome, Baby!", "PTP'er" (for prime-time player) and "Slam, Jam, Bam!" Through state-of-the-art video game technology, Vitale's most colorful calls will be digitized for use in the video game.

"It's a big-time thrill to be associated with a prime-time company like Tengen," said the former college and pro basketball coach. "The awesome combo of Tengen's video-game experts and yours truly will no doubt make 'Awesome, Baby!' the most dominant video game on the market -- It'll be uno number one, baby!"
