NEW YORK, May 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Stanley B. Thomas Jr., senior vice president of Time-Warner Enterprises, has been named president and chief executive officer of the joint venture between Sega of America Inc., Time Warner Entertainment Co. L.P. and Tele- Communications Inc. (TCI), that will launch the Sega Channel. After the channel is launched, Thomas will also be president and chief executive officer of the Sega Channel, it was announced today by the three joint venture companies. The Sega Channel will offer Sega Genesis owners access to a large library of video games via cable televisions and will be priced in the range of most pay-cable subscription services. The channel will be launched in test markets this fall and the service will be available to all U.S. cable system operators in 1994. Thomas had been senior vice president of Time Warner Enterprises since May 1990. Prior to that, he was senior vice president, affiliate operations, for Home Box Office Inc., the pay-TV subsidiary of Time Warner Inc., since August 1989. Thomas was with HBO for 11 years. Beginning as an assistant to the chairman and chief executive officer, he rose, successively, to director of the national account management group; vice president, national accounts; and senior vice president of national accounts. He held previous positions at Time Inc. and ITT. Previously, he was deputy assistant secretary and the assistant secretary, Human Development Services Division, of the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare in Washington D.C. He has a bachelor of arts in political science and history from Yale University. Sega of America Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of $3.1 billion Sega Enterprises Ltd., Japan.
