NOVATO, Calif., June 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The Software Toolworks (NASDAQ: TWRX), a leading publisher of entertainment software products, has launched "Cal Ripken Jr. Baseball(TM)" for Super NES(R) and Sega(TM) Genesis(TM) under its Mindscape label. Cal Ripken Jr., winner of the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the American League in 1991 and 1983, is one of only 20 players in major league baseball history to be MVP twice. "Cal Ripken Jr. Baseball" provides a new level of baseball simulation, placing heavy emphasis on smoothness of animation. Game Players magazine agrees, saying, "Mindscape boasts that this game is 'the strongest baseball simulation ever, with smoothness in animation, sophisticated baseball logic, and enhanced intelligence for the players.' Guess what? ... It's the truth!" Several 'Firsts' Among Baseball Games "Cal Ripken Jr. Baseball" is the only video baseball game available which has cutaway scenes. For a variety of plays, a cutaway "box" appears on the screen to provide magnified "close-ups" of the players in action. Another "first" is the choice between domed, traditional outdoor, or "Fenway" style stadiums for variety in the action. "Cal Ripken Jr. Baseball" offers a choice of 18 teams -- from the National Club West, National Club East, American Club West and American Club East -- for a full season of play, playoffs and the championship. Great Reviews Game magazines have reflected an immediate and positive acceptance of "Cal Ripken Jr. Baseball" because of its design, its "look," and the general level of game sophistication. The Sega(R) Genesis(R) version received great words from Electronic Games: "For future Hall-of-Fame Cal Ripken Jr. to put his name on a video baseball game, you would expect nothing less than a quality product. That is precisely what you get in this Mindscape rendition ..." Electronic Gaming Monthly says, "'Cal Ripken Jr. Baseball' is a fine example of how baseball (games) should be done." The new product provides "some of the best baseball action yet seen on the Super NES," says Nintendo Power. "'Cal Ripken Jr. Baseball,'" according to GamePro, "gives you the look and feel of baseball ..." Profits from royalties that would otherwise be due to Cal Ripken Jr. in connection with the sale of the "Cal Ripken Jr. Baseball" game will go to Kelly and Cal Ripken Jr. Foundation. The foundation actively supports a variety of fundamental community education, health, recreation and adult literacy programs.
