ONTARIO, CA (July 27, 1997) - GameWorksTM, a new breed of club which redefines play, opens its doors today. The 31,000 square foot site is located forty-five minutes outside Los Angeles and will be a highlight of the recently opened Ontario Mills mall. "Ontario Mills has become a destination for many Southern Californians," comments Michael Montgomery, president and COO, Sega GameWorks. "GameWorks Ontario represents our debut appearance in Southern California and we look forward to attracting local area residents as well as out-of-town visitors to a club that offers the best games, food and a full bar in a very interactive, social environment." GameWorks, the newest entertainment experience that combines the best of the industry's music, games and technology was inspired by DreamWorks SKG, Sega Enterprises and Universal Studios Inc., and developed under the guidance of Steven Spielberg. GameWorks' main areas include the Loading Dock, a competitive zone where guests can put the newest games to the test; the Arena, a high-energy area that features GameWorks' signature and multi-player games; and the Loft, a relaxing environment offering a variety of classic video games, traditional games and Internet activities, as well as food, beverages, and a full bar. GameWorks Ontario is the third GameWorks to open this year; the first GameWorks opened in Seattle in March 1997 and the second club debuted on The Strip in Las Vegas in May 1997. Upcoming GameWorks locations include Grapevine, Texas; Tempe, Arizona; and Rio de Janiero, Brazil. GameWorks is the main business of Sega GameWorks L.L.C. Other Sega GameWorks activities include Sega CityTM and Game Operations, which owns and operates numerous arcade and Sega City locations, and Game Sales, the exclusive distributor of Sega arcade games for North and South America.
