SAN JOSE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--EMBEDDED SYSTEMS CONFERENCE, BOOTH #4418, September 29, 1999-- Embedded Modem Makes Next-Generation Gaming Console Internet-Ready Fueling the massive surge of consumers to the Internet, TRISIGNAL Communications, a Division of Eicon Technology Corporation (TSE: EIC; ME: EIC), announced today they are providing key technologies for Sega Enterprises Ltd.'s Internet-ready videogame console, Sega Dreamcast(TM). Available in the U.S. and Canada since September 9, 1999, Sega Dreamcast pre-sold more than 300,000 units and brought in over $97 million in retail sales during the first 24 hours, illustrating the overwhelming demand for the first videogame console with Internet functionality Using TRISIGNAL's embedded controllerless modem code and a V.90 data pump from Conexant (Nasdaq: CNXT), the Sega Dreamcast is the first videogame console to enter the market with Internet capabilities. The built-in modem ensures full Internet functionality, including chat, email and browsing through the Sega Dreamcast Network, an online gaming portal accessible only through Sega Dreamcast. "We are proud to join Sega in setting new standards for true interactive entertainment," said Gad Elmoznino, Director of TRISIGNAL Operations. "Our partnership gives console gamers more ways to play and communicate that were never before possible." "As a pioneer in console games with networking capability, Sega is determined to become the center of interactive entertainment worldwide." TRISIGNAL's embedded modem has been designed to minimize required CPU MIPS and is optimized in terms of modem performance. TRISIGNAL's efficient architecture also reduces the number of modem components, which keeps the overall manufacturing costs per unit very low.
