AM移植チーム（野良）の村山です。

MODEL2コレクション第1弾 格闘3タイトル！
バーチャファイター２、ファイティングバイパーズ、ソニック・ザ・ファイターズ が
PS3、Xbox360のダウンロードタイトルとして、絶賛配信中です！

おかげさまでたくさんの方々に、この格闘3タイトルをプレイしていただいてます。
本当にありがとうございます。

ですが！
まだまだ、もっともっとたくさんの方にプレイしていただきたいっ！

さぁ、何かの間違いでここを読んでしまったあなた！
まわりの人に「今バーチャ２とかDLで買えるんだぜー」と広めていただけますと助かります(笑)

それが一番難しいことなのはわかってるんですが、
「発売されてるの知らなかった」ってのは何とかして回避したいんですよねぇ…
ダウンロードで買えて、しかもオンラインで対戦できちゃうってことを
何とかして拡散していきたいのであります。

じゃあ宣伝しろよって話もありますが、そこはあの…いろいろと事情が(笑)

では本題！

ソニック・ザ・ファイターズに出てくる隠しキャラの「ハニー・ザ・キャット」。
いまどき、単に隠しキャラがいますといっても、別にそんなに驚くような話じゃないですが、
15年以上前にお蔵入りになったキャラが復活っていうのは結構ドラマチックなのではないかと思います。

このハニー・ザ・キャット、アーケード版の解析作業をしていたプログラマーさんが第一発見者。
「なんかハニーがいるんですけど」
って報告。

「いやいやいや！そんなバカな！ハニーなんていませんよwww」
と自信たっぷりに答えるワタシ。

実はわたくし、ソニック・ザ・ファイターズは、サントラCDはもちろん、
MODEL2の実機を買っちゃうほど好きなんですが、ハニーなんて見たことも聞いたこともなかったので…

ところが！

本当にいました！
しかも丁寧に2Pカラーまで入ってる！
（他のキャラは2Pカラーは存在せず、同キャラ対戦時は片方が白黒になる）

これは本当にびっくりしました。

よくよく調べてみるとサターン版ファイティングバイパーズのオープニングムービーに一瞬だけ出てたり、
なぜか海外ではそれなりに知られていたようで、検索するとファンアートなんかが出てきたりします。

で、じゃあどうする？って話になり、
「そりゃ使えるなら使おう！」 という結論に。

このハニー・ザ・キャット。なぜ不採用になったのかが不明だったので、
もしかして未完成かも？という不安もありましたが、
アーケード版の開発を担当した方（というか片桐さん）に協力していただいて、
きちんと使えるようになっていることを確認。実際使ってみても特に問題なかったので
今回、15年以上の時を超えて日の目を見ることとなったのでした。

ソニック・ザ・ファイターズはPS2とGCにも「ジェムズコレクション」として移植されてますが
このハニー・ザ・キャットが見れるのは今回のPS3/360版だけ！
レアです！！

それにしても何で不採用になったんでしょうね。
今となっては知る由も無いですが、やっぱり気になります(笑)

ちなみに、メタルソニックとエッグマンについても初のプレイアブル。
あまりにも強すぎたことと、同キャラ対戦で白黒モデルがなかったことから
対戦のみ(ランクマッチは不可)の限定的な使用になっちゃいましたけど、こちらも注目です。
当時、CPU戦でメタルソニックにめっちゃくちゃ苦労した思い出のある自分としては
こんな簡単なコマンドであの技を出してたのか！ふざけんな！と思いましたw

ソニック・ザ・ファイターズはVF2、FVや他のソニックシリーズと比べると知名度はちょっと低いですが
操作簡単、見た目かわいい、そして駆け引きもきちんと熱い！と、かなりの良作です。
格闘ゲームだけど、パーティーゲーム的にみんなでワイワイ遊ぶのにも向いてます。

普段ゲームをあんまりやらない人とか、小さいお子様にもおすすめです！これ、マジ。

VIRTUA FIGHTER 2, FIGHTING VIPERS, and SONIC THE FIGHTERS are now available as downloadable titles for PS3 and Xbox 360!

Thanks to you, many people have been playing these three fighting titles.

However!
We still want more and more people to play!

So we'd like to ask you, who ended up reading this by accident!
It would be great if you could spread the word to the people around you that Virtua 2 is now available for download (lol).
I'd really appreciate it if you could help us out!

I know that's the hardest thing to do, but I want to avoid the "I didn't know it was on sale" situation through some way or another...
I want to somehow spread the word that you can buy it as a download, and that you can play online.

You could just say we should advertise it, but... well, there's a lot going on here (laughs).

Let's get to the point!

Honey the Cat is a hidden character in Sonic the Fighters.
Nowadays, it's not that surprising that there's a hidden character in a game, but I think it's quite dramatic that a character that was shelved over 15 years ago is back.

This Honey the Cat character was first discovered by a programmer who was working on the analysis of the arcade version.
He reported, "There's some kind of Honey girl here."

"No, no, no! That's ridiculous! There's no way Honey's there lmao," I answered confidently.

I actually like Sonic the Fighters so much that I bought the soundtrack CD and even the actual model 2, but I've never seen or heard of Honey...

But!

She was really there!
And she had 2P colors!
(The other characters don't have 2P colors, and one of them turns black and white when two identical characters fight each other)

This really surprised me.

If you look carefully, you'll find that she appears for a brief moment in the opening movie of the Saturn version of Fighting Vipers, and for some reason she seems to have been well known overseas, with fan art showing up when you search for her.

So we talked about what to do, and concluded that if we can use her, we should.

I was not sure why this Honey the Cat was rejected, and I was worried that she might not be finished, but the person who was in charge of the development of the arcade version (or rather, Mr. Katagiri) cooperated with me and confirmed that she was ready to be used.

There were no problems when I tried to use her, and now, after more than 15 years, she has seen the light of day.

Sonic the Fighters has been ported to the PS2 and GC as part of the "Gems Collection", but this PS3/360 version is the only place where you can see Honey the Cat!
She's rare!

Still, I wonder why she was rejected.
I have no way of knowing now, but I'm still curious (laughs).

Incidentally, Metal Sonic and Eggman are also playable for the first time.
They were too strong and there was no grayscale model for same-character matches, so they were limited to Offline Versus only (no ranked matches), but this is also noteworthy.
I remember struggling so much with Metal Sonic in CPU battles back then, and I was like, "I can't believe he was able to pull off that move with such simple commands! You've got to be kidding me!" lol

Sonic the Fighters is not as well known as VF2, FV, or other Sonic games, but it's a good game with easy controls, a cute appearance, and a lot of fun.
It's a fighting game, but it's also a party game that can be played with everyone.

I'd recommend this to people who don't usually play games much, or even little kids! I am serious.
