St. Michel Productions was a Canadian video production company, notable for collaborating with Sega of America on the production of three promotional VHS tapes: Sega Game Gear Tips Volume 1 and Sega Game Gear Tips Volume 2 (for the advertising campaign Kids Go HoJo with Sega), and Lunchables Sega Game Tips Video (for an Oscar Mayer Foods promotion.)
Sega Game Gear Tips
One of the company's most well-remembered works, and the one most associated with the Kids Go HoJo with Sega campaign today, is the series of 1995 promotional VHS tapes Sega Game Gear Tips Volume 1 and Sega Game Gear Tips Volume 2. Available for guests and their children as a free rental, each tape features a series of different tips for the chain's available Sega Game Gear games, are are both built around the same main video - an extended advertisement where a Howard Johnson's spokesperson promotes both the Game Gear and the hotel's amenities. Unfortunately, the high-energy and erratic editing style used (while common for the era) has aged notably poorly, and the unflattering association with the now lesser-known hotel chain is often the only exposure that many have to the name Howard Johnson's.
