Sunrise
From Sega Retro
Sunrise, Inc. (株式会社サンライズ), previously known as Nippon Sunrise and Sunrise Studios is a Japanese animation studio notorious for the Kidou Senshi Gundam fanchise. Over the years, many of its intellectual properties have been turned into video games.
Sunrise had a brief stint in the video game publishing business with Sunrise Interactive.
In 1994, Bandai purchased the studio. In 2005, after the formation of Namco Bandai Holdings (currently known as Bandai Namco Holdings), Sunrise was moved into the NBHD fold. In 2015, as part of a group restructuring, Bandai Namco Pictures was established to take over most of Sunrise's works aimed at families. In 2022, Bandai Namco renamed the company to Bandai Namco Filmworks Inc. (株式会社バンダイナムコフィルムワークス) as the company merged with Bandai Namco Arts in the process.
