Development
In 2002, the 20th anniversary of Macross, Bandai approached Sega-AM2 with the idea of creating a video game[2]. It was largely created by developers who had previously worked at CSK Research Institute, notably creating the flight simulation series AeroWings[2], and many of whom would later create air combat game After Burner Climax and mech-focused game Border Break. Because Macross is a licensed game, it was designed to be easier to complete and reach the ending than an original video game IP would be designed[2].
