Contents
Gameplay
Tac/Scan is a shoot-'em up; however, unlike traditional shooters, the player pilots up to a maximum of seven space ships at once. Ships can be taken out by enemy fire, but may be re-obtained later on and activated when the player sees fit.
As the game is powered by vector-based hardware, the game is able to switch views seamlessly. A third of the game has a traditional top-down shoot-'em-up setting, another third uses a third-person perspective and the last third has the player navigate through a series of hoops.
History
Legacy
Tac/Scan was brought to the Atari 2600 in 1983, also by Sega Electronics. This port suffers considerably and removes the third-person segments. Tac/Scan has recently been included as part of Sega Mega Drive Collection on the PlayStation 2.
Sega Electronics also developed versions for Atari 8-bit computers and the Commodore VIC-20, but they were not released. A prototype of the VIC-20 has since surfaced on the internet, however.
