History
To test the development framework Microsoft XNA, Guard Crush Games started to develop their first game Streets of Fury. They submitted it to the 2008 Dream Build Play Challenge and then released it on Xbox Live Indie Game in 2009. After a successful Steam Greenlight campaign, they released the second installment in the series, Streets of Fury: Extended edition, in 2015.
It's to be noted that, until 2018, Guard Crush Games was an indie part-time structure:
- Jordi Asensio worked for Cyanide Studio on games like Blood Bowl II or the first videogame adaptation of Game of Thrones, and then got hired by DotEmu in 2017(?) to work on WindJammers 2.
- Cyrille Lagarigue worked for Ubisoft between 2007 and 2017, moving from Paris to Montréal in 2010, to work on games like Assassin's Creed 3 or Far Cry 4 Arcade Poker.
The other known employee is Beausoleil Samson-Guillemette, who worked for Gameloft from 2005 to 2017 on the videogame series Gangstar, high profile mobile games.
A chain of events led them to participate in the development of Streets of Rage 4, making Guard Crush Games a full-time structure since 2018 and leading to the release of SoR4 in 2020.
