JEF United Ichihara, prior to their match against Verdy Kawasaki (1992-09-23)

In 1991 Japanese company football teams JR East and Furukawa Electric merged to form "Higashi Nihon JR Furukawa Soccer Club", subsequently renamed JEF United Ichihara (ジェフユナイテッド市原) for the debut of the Japanese J.League. Sega were the first major sponsor of JEF United, and were first seen during the first ever J.League tournament, the 1992 Yamazaki Nabisco Cup

During the Yamazaki Nabisco Cup, the team continued to play in its blue-and-white stripes Higashi Nihon JR Furukawa colours, with the teams' now iconic yellow and green kit debuting in 1993. Sega sponsored the team until the end of the 1996 season, with JEF United finishing in the middle of the league table each year.

While Sega has not partnered with JEF United since, Sammy would sponsor the team in the 2005 season, after its merger with Sega to form Sega-Sammy Holdings.
