Hydlide Special is an upgraded version of the 1984 RPG, Hydlide, which saw a release on the Nintendo Famicom in 1986 (and NES in 1989).

According to issue #3 of Electronic Gaming Monthly[1], it appeared in some form at Summer CES 1989 for the Sega Mega Drive (alongside Hollo Fighter, the working title of Super Hydlide (a.k.a. Hydlide III)), though was never released.
