Fantastic Journey/Gokujou Parodius!
Upgrade character
Pause the game and press 
START (the Konami code). This will upgrade the firepower of your current selected character.
The weapons chosen correlate with those you will be given in "auto" mode, but won't include any shields. For example, Vic Viper will be given the missle, four options and the laser powerups, but not double.
