Key assign mode[1] / VS option mode
As the Sega logo fades in, press . A sound will confirm the correct entry.
Now in two player mode, have both players select their character then hold START on both control pads before the red versus screen fades in. A new menu will load with more options (being called different things between the NTSC-J/PAL and NTSC-U versions of the game).
Stage select
As the Sega logo fades in, press . A new stage select screen will appear when starting the game.
For the NTSC-U version, the code is shorter, being just .
Unknown code
As the Sega logo fades in, press . A sound will confirm the correct entry, but it is not known what this code actually does (if anything).
