Round select
Press on the options screen to activate an extra "Round Select" option[1].
Master System version
Sega logo
Although the Master System version of Gain Ground was not released in Japan, there is programming to display the Sega logo before the title screen if the game detects it is being played on a Japanese system.
Special mode
Hold ++ before the two halves of the title screen meet.
