Warhammer Online is an unreleased MMORPG developed by Climax Studios and was at one point set to be published by Sega for Windows PCs. Two attempts were made during the 2000s to create Warhammer Online; this project was the first, with Sega announcing its involvement in May 2003.
Climax were forced to abandon the project in June 2004 after licensors Games Workshop determined that the roll-out costs would be too high. They nevertheless continued to self-fund and work on the game until the end of the year when the plug was finally pulled.
With the rights reverting to Games Workshop, Mythic Entertainment approached the licensors in 2005 and began working on a brand new Warhammer Online. This version, eventually titled Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, would be published by Electronic Arts in 2008, and would be officially supported until 2013.
