Clean pause
During gameplay, press HOLD START .
Software reset
Zool is one of the few Mega Drive games to implement a software reset. At any point during gameplay, +++ START will return to the title screen.
Get extra life
During gameplay, press HOLD START (DULLARD). When unpaused you will be given an extra life.
Free movement
During gameplay, press HOLD START (ABRACADABRA), and the player can move Zool around with the D-Pad. The effect will be disabled if Zool touches an object, and he cannot fly through solid walls.
Level select
During gameplay, press HOLD START (CRAB BALLAD). Once you let go of START , the game will still be paused, but the number of bonuses (the C number) will have changed (defaulting to 110). Now, and changes the world (denoted by the first digit) and and changes the level (denoted by the second digit). Once chosen, perform a software reset (see above) to return to the title screen, and when you start a new game, you will begin on the chosen level.
Seven health points and 30 extra seconds of time
During gameplay, press HOLD START (BARRACUDA). When unpaused your health will be topped up to seven points and you will receive 30 extra seconds on the clock.
Start with 225 health points and 999 seconds of time
During gameplay, press HOLD START (RADAR BLUR). Now either lose a life, finish a level or perform a software reset reset and when play begins again, you will start with 225 health points and 999 seconds on the clock. This code will remain in effect throughout the game.[1]
Unknown
During gameplay, press HOLD START (BAD LAD). This code is accepted by the game but its function is currently unknown.
