The Game Toshokan's title screen is very barebones, only displaying the game's title in plain text and a single grave. The western version presents a more graphically detailed title screen that shows Dragonia rising from the forest.

Brief instructions are shown when starting the game in the Game Toshokan version. The western version replaces this with a playable prologue where the player can talk to the villagers before they enter Dragonia.
Gameplay

In the Game Toshokan version, the player's status is hidden and is displayed either by pressing , fighting enemies, or checking inventory. It also has no border or background, so it can become harder to distinguish the text from the floors. The western version redesigns the HUD to have the player's status displayed at all times, as well as giving it a border and black background.
In addition, the game's graphics have been improved, and the player starts with 50 HP instead of 100.

Pressing START to pause the game will reshow the instructions from the beginning of the game in the Game Toshokan version, while the western versions display "PAUSED" text in addition to pausing the music.

The Game Over screens were redone for the western version, in turn changing the different outcomes. For example, the worst possible Game Over screen had a dog urinate on the player's grave in the Game Toshokan version.
