The Bitmap Brothers are a British software developer best known for a verity of well-received Commodore Amiga games that have been ported to a variety of other platforms by other developers. Around the time 32bit systems took over, their output had drastically decreased and after that, basically came to a stop. They continue to exist today, but have not developed much software in recent years, instead focusing on re-releasing their legacy games on new platforms. It is most likely that their name is derived from the .bmp file format.
